iGlue Live and Going Strong

As you’re all aware, we launched to the general public just a couple of weeks ago and have had some amazing repsonses from you all. We’re really happy with the system, although are constantly working to make it better and better the more we learn from daily use.

On the press side we’ve seen lots of positive write ups from across Europe. TechCrunch has recently covered our launch with a great piece, as well as The Guardian in the UK also interested in our work with a great write up.

Of course in the process we launched our great new launch video, as well as several tutorial videos designed to help people easily get to grips with our system.

As always, all our latest news can be found on our social media channels, so hook with us on Facebook and Twitter.

Now is the time we’re looking to spread the word, so please tell all your friends that we’re out there!

Thanks

iGlue goes live to the public!

We are very proud to announce that iGlue and the IceCube has been launched to the public today. We’re very excited to to finally see it out in the wild, and we hope you are too. We’ve made lots of changes to previous test versions to create what we think is the best in browser search interface around. Available in bookmarklet or plug in form, you can get either immediately by clicking here.

For those of you who are new to iGlue Community, please have a flick through some of the features listed below, but even better just head over and try it for yourself.

Want to see our metropolis themed launch video, click here!

Some of the benefits of iGlue in everyday use:

Making info easier to find.

The IceCube widget is designed to be the simplest way to read around a subject. For example, an article on recent floods in Pakistan on www.bbc.co.uk may mention names or places some of us know little about. With one click you can explore more on a subject, see where it is located, how old it is, view biographies, information about its connections to other places or people.

Finding the right info immediately.

Due to iGlue’s unique semantic search engine, the IceCube widget offers real connections, rather than just keyword search. The IceCube can understand the meaning of words, for example a search of JFK can reveal whether the article refers to the airport, the person or even a public library.

Updated by the world.

The IceCube also allows any user to add to our database with just a few clicks. Users can simply click on text or even images and add a tag to them right inside the article – these updates are immediate and for all to access. This human interaction builds not only the iGlue database, but also a loyal community across the globe.

iGlue - a progress report

We thought now would be a good time to keep you all up to date on our progress with iGlue and the IceCube. As you’re aware we’re still in beta at the moment, but after a latest funding round and some great PR from places like The Guardian in the UK, we’re building towards our final push.

We are currently planning our public launch for the end of October. We can never be 100% certain as we want to get the public launch exactly right so that when people do start using it, they have a great experience.

Secondly, as we all know, iGlue is a complicated system at the back end, so that it can be as easy as possible on the front facing end. We’re trying as hard as possible to iron out any issues now so that we don’t experience problems post launch.

One of the biggest features of iGlue is the creation of a worldwide community. This is why we now have Facebook and Twitter areas, where you can keep up with not only our latest news but also semantic web related news we hope you might be interested in. Please add us and also forward on to anyone you think may be interested, to help us build a larger, stronger community.

Thanks from all at iGlue.

How Semantic Web will change marketing forever…

A really interesting piece here on how semantic web will begin to filter out lots of the more useless online advertising we see everyday. We have of course grown accustomed to non-targetted, or at least badly targetted advertising, but with the onset of semantic search, advertisers will be able to better tailor their advertising to your search and also, in time, your personal preferences.

Please check it out, as it directly applies to us all at iGlue.

The British Library unveils 20:20 Vision

The British Library in London has launched its 20:20 Vision document which aims to explore how technology, and people’s interactions with it, will change by 2020. One of the interesting features is their belief that semantic tech will be widespread and aiding people’s everyday life so definitely worth a read for us! They have created a dedicated microsite at http://www.bl.uk/2020vision to learn more.

The Tim Berners Lee Article that aired Semantic Web as a concept

In 2001, Tim Berners Lee wrote an article for Scientific American magazine that opened up a new discussion about how the web needed to be more interlinked as it increased to a gargantuan size. Their theory was based upon the following criteria:

To date, the World Wide Web has developed most rapidly as a medium of documents for people rather than of information that can be manipulated automatically. By augmenting Web pages with data targeted at computers and by adding documents solely for computers, we will transform the Web into the Semantic Web.

Computers will find the meaning of semantic data by following hyperlinks to definitions of key terms and rules for reasoning about them logically. The resulting infrastructure will spur the development of automated Web services such as highly functional agents.

Ordinary users will compose Semantic Web pages and add new definitions and rules using off-the-shelf software that will assist with semantic markup.

The article is a fascinating read from one of the foremost proponents of Semantic Web, and made all the more fascinating as it’s from way back in 2001.

Nigel Shadbolt weaves his way through Semantic web

An interesting, and not heavy, video of the roots of Nigel Shadbolt’s work in semantic web with some great old references to research work done over many years of continuous study.

iGlue Movie now online

In the previous months we’ve been working hard to encapsulate just what it is that iGlue does in as simple terms of possible. Our award winning trip to Geek’n'Rolla in London really helped us to sell ourselves, and more importantly really explain iGlue to people who aren’t immersed in the tech world on a 24 hour basis. As a result, we’ve created this movie which we hope gives everyone a clear understanding of what we’re doing right now. Enjoy… http://blog.iglue.hu/docs/iGlueShortPrezi/

Tim Berner’s Lee on the semantic web in everyday life

A very eloquent explanation of why Tim Berners Lee was frustrated with the amount of data on the web and its inability to find a relationship between it. This, for us, is a very simple explanation of why semantic linking of content and sources can be useful for business but also for everyday life, not least when searching for information on the increasingly huge web….
